A hike to Emerald Lake

We have been coming to Estes Park for the last five years and stay at Elk Meadows Lodge and RV Park while here. The RV park is about 2 miles from the south entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. This makes it very convenient for the many trips that we make into the park while we are here.

One of the things that we like to do while here, is hike in the National Park. There are over 350 miles of hiking trails that offer varying degrees of difficulty. Some of the trails are classified hard and are not for us. However, there are plenty that are not difficult and allow us to enjoy the beauty of the mountains.

Since we have been here, we have taken two nice hikes. One was the hike to Emerald Lake, the same one that we did last year. It is a beautiful hike that takes you to a chain for three lakes. The first lake is Nympth Lake, about a half mile up the trail. This lake is the smallest of the three. The second lake is Dream Lake which is another .6 mile up the trail and the last lake is Emerald Lake which is another .7 miles up the trail. Dream lake is the larger of the three and is a very popular with the fly fishermen and fisherwomen. The hike gains 750 feet in altitude by the time you reach Emerald Lake. Since the trail head starts at 9,475 feet, you are at 10,225 feet when you get to the end of the trail.
