A short trip to a new campground on Lake Livingston.

Year before last, while at the Houston Camper Show, one of the vendors there was representing a new campground on Lake Livingston. The vendor told us that they had bought an existing older campground and had torn it down to rebuild it to their specifications. We’ve been wanting to come up here and camp and see what they had done, so we decided this weekend would be a good time for us.

When we returned from Medina the last of March, I had to take the camper back to the dealer to once again to have the water heater fixed. It has been there since then and the repair had just been completed the day before we were planning to leave. I went to the dealer and picked up the trailer Wednesday afternoon and brought it to the house so that I could get the refrigerator going. The plan was to leave by noon the next day. The trip to the new campground is only about an hour and a half.

It never ceases to amaze me at how much stuff we take with us on a camping trip, even a short trip. My wife reminds me constantly that no matter how many days we are gone we still need most of the same things. True to the Fuller timing, we were two hours later leaving than we had planned. There is no point in us trying to adjust the time, we are going to be about two hours late no matter what. It certainly isn’t planned that way….it just happens! The only time we get close to our planned departure is during the summer when we leave early in the morning for a long trip. Then we are within an hour of departure time.

The campground that we came to is Lake Side RVĀ Resort and Marina in Onalaska, Texas. The campground isn’t totally completed, but that which is complete is very nice. It is very well laid out and will be very attractive once everything is done. Currently they have 90 full service RV sites, a nice restaurant and marina with boat slips as well as a boat ramp that can accommodate three boats at a time. There are four sections to the campground and I would say that about 3 and 1/2 sections are complete. By the look of things it might be some time before the last section is complete. As with anything that is new, it takes time to get the word out and the business up.
