Destination Colonial Williamsburg, VA

We left Gettysburg, PA and the Drummer Bog Camping Resort day before yesterday. It was only a 4 hour drive down to Williamsburg, VA but my nerves were shot due to the traffic and construction through the Washington DC area. We have never been to this part of the country, so we thought we’d stop here on our way back home. The mid day traffic was almost like rush hour in the Houston area. I don’t see how people put up with this traffic day after day? I guess you just deal with what is dished out to you.

We area staying at the Ameriacan Heritage RV Park just north of Williamsburg. We looked at several of the campgrounds in the area but this one seemed to be the best choice. It is a very nice campground. The majority of the campsites have concrete pads and patios and 30/50 amp electricity. One of the last rows doesn’t have concrete pads and only has 30 amp electricity.

The reason we came here was to see Colonial Williamsburg. We did that today with our friends who met us here yesterday. Before we arrived, I didn’t know that you had to pay if you want to go inside many of the reconstructed buildings. There is no charge just to walk around the historic village but you have to have a pass to see the inside of any of the buildings. Sometimes it pays to be a senior citizen. This is senior citizens month here so we got a 15% discount on our tickets.

Tomorrow we will go back and see some of the things we missed today. It is a large area and it takes more than one day to see it all. We will also drive down to Jamestown and take in the sights there if we have time. Day after tomorrow we will head west. I will decide tomorrow night what route we will take. Its great to have the freedom to make that decision at the last minute. We don’t make reservations. We just drive until about 1 pm and then call where we had planned to stop. If they are full, we just find someplace else.

Later!
