Galveston Island Campgrounds

We recently made a day trip down to Galveston Island, Texas. We had only been there once since Hurricane Ike roared across the Island about 3 years ago. We had seen an ad for a new RV park close to Stewart Beach so we thought it would give us an excuse to go down for the afternoon and see what was happening.

Our last trip down to Galveston was not too long after Hurricane Ike hit. We went down to see if Dellanera RV Park had sustained much damage. Since Dellanera is right on the beach, it was wiped out except for the concrete pavilion. We had stayed at Dellanera several times and were interested in going there again but they were closed for several years while plans were made to reconstruct the park.

Well, Dellanera has been rebuilt and is better than before. All of the RV sites are concrete and have more space than the old sites. They also have more pull thrus than they had before. They still don’t have many amenities other than that they are right on the beach. You can check out more information and see pictures on the website.

The new RV Park is the Sandpiper RV Resort on Stewart Beach which is on the east end of the Island. It is a small park with only about 50 RV sites. They have a nice swimming pool and they are on the beach. They have nice concrete RV pads and paved interior roads as well as a security fence around the property.

Another RV park is Jamaica Beach RV Park. They are on the western end of the island. They have some nice amenities but they are not on the beach. They are across the San Luis Pass Road from the beach. You can check them out on the website.

There is also a Galveston Island State Park which is west of Dellanera RV Park. The state park offers tent camping as well as RV sites. However, as with most state parks, there aren’t any individual sewer connections. They offer 30/50 amp electrics and water.

There is one more RV Park on the Island. It is the Bayou Shores RV Resort close to Moody Gardens. Don’t know anything about the park. I have only driven past it.

A new pleasure pier has just opened on the beach. We have not tried it out yet, but check out their website. Looks like it is very nice.
