It was a beautiful day for an Airshow!

For anyone who has looked at my website and read the About Us page, you know that before I became a camper guy I flew airplanes for a living. In fact that is the only job I had in my adult life. Since my retirement I haven’t done much flying and that includes riding around the country as a passenger. I flew for so long that I have been very content to drive across country in our camper and enjoy the beauty of this great land of ours. I haven’t forgotten my past and still enjoy aviation. After all, that was my first love. As a youngster, I knew what I wanted to do and I did it. Most of my friends thought I was nuts, but who cares!

This weekend was the 25 annual “Wings Over Houston Airshow”. It has been about 6 years since I last went, so with the weather being bright and clear, it just seemed like the thing to do. Besides, I have several grandchildren who expressed a desire to go, so off we went. What a gorgous day for an Airshow! There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the temperature was in the 70s. The feature act was the US Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration team but there were many more flight demonstrations that were crowd pleasers. One of the most notable was the “Tora Tora Tora” reenactment of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It is always a crowd pleaser with various types of aircraft involved and explosions going off the simulate the bomb burst. Judging by the record crowds of people, airshows are very popular!

This is the first airshow that I have been to in many years that had a Douglas A-4, the type of plane that I flew while in the Navy. However, this was the two seat version of a later model of the A-4, designated the TA-4F. In the picture below, you might notice that this is a Marine aircraft. The Navy actually let the Marines fly some of their airplanes!

Tomorrow I will pick the camper up from Camperland and get it ready for our trip out to Medina and The Farm Country RV Park. We will leave the camper there until the end of March. We go back and forth from home, spending several weeks at a time in the camper. Medina is also closer to our deer lease so we don’t have as far to drive when we go deer hunting.
