Screen Door Cross Bar

When we had our other camper, our grandchildren would always grab the screen door where the screen meets the top of Plexiglas middle insert in the door. After a number of times grabbing the door there to close it, the screen would get pushed out and a hole would develop. It is very difficult to get a young child to understand that they should use the small handle in the middle of the door.

When we were visiting with some friends in their camper, we noticed this bar that they had placed on their screen door.  They had put it there to make it easier to grab the screen door and close it.  Well it certainly looked like a good solution to having our grandchildren, and occasionally an adult, grab the door in the wrong place and tear the screen.  It is very attractive and easy to installed, so we decided to buy one and put on the door of our new camper.  Once it is installed, it is very sturdy and has a good feel to it.  Even though it is sturdy, I don’t recommend doing pull ups on it!

The Screen Door Cross Bar comes with the necessary screws and a mounting template.  It is very easy to install.  If I can do it, anyone can do it!  The template is used to get the correct width of the bar for your door.  The bar is adjustable and once the correct width is established, you put a couple of screws in the bar to keep it from sliding.  Then you find the position you want the bar to be in on your door and drill the four 1/8 inch holes and then screw the bar onto the door.  I mounted mine just above the top of the Plexiglas insert so the kids aren’t tempted to grab in the wrong place.   This cross bar works great and has solved the problem of having the kids poke a hole in the screen from grabbing in the wrong place.
