We are headed west

We left three days ago for our summer trip. Our first night was in Goodlet Texas at the Ole Town Cotton Gin RV Park. We almost always stop in Goodlet on our trip up Highway 287 on our way west. We are not sure why we like this small RV park but it has some sort of attraction. Perhaps it is the biscuits and gravy that the owner made every morning and served with breakfast in the cotton gin. We were disappointed to learn that she doesn’t do biscuits and gravy anymore. I guess things never stay the same.

Our second night was in Santa Rosa, NM at the Santa Rosa RV Park. The RV park is on Historic Route 66 just off I-40 and on the edge of town. The park was adequate for an overnight stay. Most of the pull through sites are side-by-side hookups and I do not like that type of hookup. Fortunately for us, the park wasn’t busy so we didn’t have anyone next to us.

This morning when we got up, we found that our dog, Missy, wouldn’t get up. We thought that perhaps she still had some thorns in one of her paws as she had stepped on several the day before. We couldn’t detect anything wrong but she wouldn’t stand up. We knew that we needed to take her to a vet but there are no vets in Santa Rosa. Since we would be passing through Albuquerque, NM we decided the best thing to do would be to get a campground there and take Missy to a vet. We were able to get Missy in soon after arriving. It turns out she has contracted a bacteria in her stomach. So we are delayed by one day.

The campground that we chose here in Albuquerque is the American RV Park. What a nice RV park! All of the sites have concrete pads and a small concrete patio with table. If we didn’t have a plan for this trip, I’d spend another day here just to be at the park. But tomorrow we must press on to Winslow, AZ so that we can go see the Meteor Crater. I have flown over the crater many times but have never seen it close up so this is my chance. From there we will go to the Grand Canyon. We will eventually find our way to Estes Park, CO where we having been going for the last 6 years.
