Cedar Rail Campground & RV Park

Cedar Rail Campground and RV Park is a small campground located on the top of Raton Pass at an elevation of 7830 and is just north of Raton, NM on Interstate 25.  It is accessible from either the north or south by taking Exit 460 and staying on the service road to the entrance.

The campground has 26 sites with 9 being pull-thrus.  All sites have water and electricity with 30/50 amp but only 24 have sewer.  There are also 10 tent sites available.  The campground has nice clean restrooms and showers and also a small laundry facility.  There is a small play area, enclosed rec room, horse shoes and WiFi.  The WiFi worked really well unlike some camgrounds that say they have WiFi but it doesn't always work.

We have driven past this campground each year when coming to Colorado but never stayed here since we usually stop  at the KOA in Raton.  We are glad that we decided to pass the KOA and stay at Ceder Rail.  The views from the campground are very nice.  The back-ins that face the southwest have especially nice views as they sit on a hill looking down into a valley and across at the mountains in the distance.

We view this campground as being a nice place to stay for an overnight, but I can see some folks staying longer.  If you want to enjoy cool air and just kick back this would be a good place to do it.  However, there are things to do in the area that are an easy drive.  One year we stayed at the KOA in Raton and visited theCapulin Valcano that is on highway 64/87 and is only 33 miles to the east.  The Valcano is very interesting and I think is worth the trip.  We also made a day trip to Red River, NM which is about 1 1/2 hour away.  If you visit the Cedar Rail website, they list the activities in the area.

If you plan on staying here even for one night, I suggest that you call ahead and make sure that there is room since there are only 26 sites and some of them are occupied on a long term basis.
