This is the campground that we seem to enjoy going to the most.  We go every year and have our reservations for this year (2011).

Elk Meadows Lodge and RV Resort is located in Estes Park, Colorado at the entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park.  You can get there from Inerstate 25 by taking Highway 34 through Loveland, Colorado or taking Highway 36 through Boulder, Colorado.  We have always taken Highway 34.  It follows the Big Thompson River up a very curvey road through the valley.  When you get into town stay on the main street through town and stay to the right because you will have to make a 90 degree turn onto Moraine Ave which is also Highway 36.  Stay on Highway 36 and then take SR 66 to the campground which will be on your right side.  You can visit their web site here and get other driving directions.

The campground has 172 gravel sites with some of them only being 30 amps.  I believe the majority of the sites are 30/50 amps and all have sewer hookups.  They have cabins for people without an RV or for guest who don't want to stay in the RV with you.  Last year we had visitors who preferred to stay in a cabin so we know that they are very nice and comfortable.  There are also a number of tent camping sites available.  If I had a complaint about the park, it would be that the campground is built on a sloping hill.  Therefore, some of the sites are terraced and don't have much room for setting up your lawn chairs and picnic table.  Also, where you have double rows there is not much space behind the campers.  With that said, this is still a great campground because all of the other features outway the minor physical problems.

One of the great features of this campground is that they have activities at the lodge almost every night.  Other amenities here include bathrooms/showers located in several areas of the park.  There is a nice play ground for young children, a heated swimming pool, horse shoes, game room, gift shop and coffe bar, covered pavilion with a fire pit adjacent to it and picnic tables for large outdoor gatherings.  LP gas is also available.

There are many things to do in the area.  The Rocky Mountain National Park is just a great place to visit.  We like it for its beauty and all of the hiking trails available.  You will encounter an abundance of wildlife in the park and in the town of Estes Park.  There are many nights when elk take up residence in the grassy park in the middle of town.  (Caution:  The elk have the rightaway in town or out of town).  There are a lot things to do in Estes Park, such as shopping, good places to eat, miniature golf, a tram ride and fishing in a stocked pond for rainbow trout.  There are many other places to fish for those who like to fish, great hiking trails for those who enjoy hiking and plenty of beautiful scenery for those who like to just drive around.  Speaking of driving, you have to take the Trail Ridge Road in the National Park at least once.

Estes Park, Colorado is a great place to visit and Elk Meadows Lodge and RV Park is a great campground.
