Priest Gulch Campground, RV Park, Cabins & Lodge
Priest Gulch Campground is located on SR 145 about 25 miles North East of Dolores, Colorado. The campground is at 8100 feet elevation on the Dolores River. It has good paved road access and good interior roads.
The park offers 88 RV sites with full hookups and 30/50 amp electrictiy. Many of the sites are on the Dolores River, which is a very nice river. The river splits the campground, providing campsites on both sides of the river. They offer tent camping on the river and have 10 cabins to choose from if you don't have a tent or camper. There is also a three bedroom lodge that operates as a Bed and Breadfast.
Amenities at the campgound include picnic tables and fire rings at each site. There is a small grocery store and gift shop in the area of the office. Fishing is available in the river but you need a license which you can purchase at the office. There are restrooms and showers and a laundry facility. WiFi is available and pets are welcomed. Another feature is that they have a security gate that requires a code to enter the campground. This prevents people from just driving through the campground and provides some security.
We are recommending this campground solely on a visual inspection of the facility. We came upon this campground while driving the beautiful San Juan Byway that comes down SR 145. It is a very attractive campground in a beautiful setting. The campsites are very nice and wide giving you losts of room. Many of the sites back up to the river providing you with the sound of running water all day and night. The campground is only opened from May through October and many of the sites are booked on a monthly bases. This is a very inviting campground and I can assure you that if we find ourselves back in this area, we will stay at this campground.
